Few people can truly imagine how difficult it would be to live a life unable to communicate with their loved ones. Unfortunately, there are some people who do not have to imagine. For the countless individuals living with aphasia, struggling to communicate even the simplest message may be all but impossible.

Through writing this blog we want to convey the helplessness of living with aphasia, although we’ve been diagnosed, people like me still have a substantial contribution to make, we still have a sense of humour and we still have feelings.

We are hoping to show the reality of trying to cope on a day-to-day basis with the ever-changing environment that aphasia throws at those diagnosed with the condition.

Living as well as you can with Aphasia is all about adapting. Adapting to new ways to enable us to live better. I can type as though aphasia never entered my world, but that often works against me as people question my diagnosis. All I can say is, live a day in our shoes and I’m sure the reality will dawn. What we want is not sympathy. What we want is simply to raise awareness!
